Powell Scholars Program

The Powell Scholars Program develops responsible leaders who excel academically and take the initiative to understand and serve the university, local, and global communities. Our individual achievements are complemented by uniting others to make a difference in the world.

2016-2017 Powell Scholars with University Administrators

Thanks to a remarkable gift from Bob and Jeanette Powell, the Powell Scholars receive generous scholarships, enrichment opportunities, and funding for research and creative projects, as well as study abroad. The Program seeks to develop leaders who excel academically, think creatively, and serve their communities locally and globally. The individual achievements of Powell Scholars are complemented by the program’s common goal of making a difference in the world, captured by its Nine Dimensions.

The Nine Dimensions of a Powell Scholar, established by the students themselves, guide our practices collectively, while each student tailors these precepts to their individual scholarly and creative interests. For an introduction to the Program's main components, please see the Message from the Director, our brochure, our annual newsletter (2016, 2017), and the 2012 Pacific Review article "The Wind Beneath Her Wings".
